Location

On the mamillary line which is 4 cun lateral to the anterior midline. 3 cun above Fushe SP-13, 1.3 cun below Daheng SP-15, on the lateral side of rectus abdominis muscle.

Commentary

Just as its name indicates, Fujie SP-14's main is to remove Qi Stagnation from the abdominal area, especially around the umbilicus. Typical manifestations include periumbilical pain, diarrhoea and dysenteric disorder, abdominal distention, constipation and shan disorder. 

It is also able to subdues Rebellious Qi that runs up to the Heart and Lungs, characterized by Heart pain and coughing. 

Finally, Fujie SP-14 warms the Lower Burner as well, so as to expel Coldness. 

Classical Sources

Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing (針灸甲乙經): Records Fujie for treating abdominal pain around the umbilicus, intestinal colic, and hernia conditions.

Zhenjiu Dacheng (針灸大成): Notes this point for periumbilical pain, diarrhea, dysentery, and constipation. Also indicated for rebellious Qi ascending to disturb the Heart and Lungs.

Thousand Ducat Formulas (千金方): Mentions Fujie for treating abdominal masses and accumulations, particularly when Qi becomes bound and knotted in the abdomen.

How to Locate

First locate Daheng SP-15 by measuring 4 cun from the umbilicus and on the mamillary line. Fujie SP-14 is 1.3 cun below SP-15.

Caution

Deep needling is contraindicated, especially in thin patients, as the peritoneal cavity may be penetrated. Use caution during pregnancy due to the abdominal location. Always needle slowly and check depth carefully. The area overlies the small intestine and, on the left side, the sigmoid colon.

Expected Deqi Sensation

Local distension and soreness around the needling site, with possible radiation across the lower abdomen. Some patients may experience a sensation of Qi movement or mild pulling toward the umbilical region.
