Commentary

Huiyang BL-35 is not a major point of the Bladder Channel. 

Its main action is to clear Damp-Heat from the Lower Burner, benefits the coccyx and tonify the Yang Qi. 

Classical Sources

《针灸甲乙经》Zhēnjiǔ Jiǎyǐ Jīng (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion): Records Huiyang as treating diarrhea, bloody stools, hemorrhoids, impotence, and vaginal discharge (带下 dài xià). The point is described as located 0.5 cun lateral to the tip of the coccyx.

《铜人腧穴针灸图经》Tóngrén Shùxué Zhēnjiǔ Tújīng (Bronze Man Acupuncture Classic): Confirms the location and adds indications for cold abdomen and genital disorders.

《针灸大成》Zhēnjiǔ Dàchéng (Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion): Lists indications including dysenteric disorders, leukorrhea, impotence, and local sacral pain. Notes that moxibustion is applicable at this point.

How to Locate

First locate the tip of the coccyx above the anus. From there, measure 0.5 cun in the lateral direction.

Caution

The point is located in a sensitive area near the coccyx and close to the anal region. Maintain strict sterility when needling. Avoid needling in patients with local infections, abscesses, or inflammatory conditions in the sacrococcygeal region. Use caution with pregnant patients as the sacral area should generally be treated conservatively during pregnancy. Ensure patient comfort and privacy when accessing this point.

Expected Deqi Sensation

Local distension and soreness radiating toward the perineum and anus. With electroacupuncture, patients may feel rhythmic muscle contractions in the anus and perineal region. The sensation may extend along the coccyx and into the lower sacral area.
