Commentary

Zhiyin BL-67 is the Well-Jing point of the Bladder Channel.

Its main function is to expel Exterior or Interior Wind, so as to ease headache, dizziness and neck pain. It also clears Heat and treats redness, pain and blurred vision of the eyes.

On the other hand, it is used to stimulate labor or remove placenta. Therefore it should not be used during pregnancy except for during a difficult laboring.

Classical Sources

Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing (The Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion): Lists BL-67 for treating headache, eye pain, nasal obstruction, and difficult labor.

Ling Shu (The Spiritual Pivot): Describes the Well-Jing points as treating "fullness below the Heart" and conditions where Qi rebels upward—consistent with BL-67's action in clearing the head.

Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold): Sun Si-Miao documents moxibustion at BL-67 for correcting fetal malposition, establishing its classical obstetric application.

How to Locate

Locate Zhiyin BL-67 at the junction of the two tangents that border the nail of the toe laterally and proximally, about 0.1 cun from the actual corner of the nail.

Caution

Needling is contraindicated during pregnancy due to its strong effect on promoting labor and fetal movement. However, moxibustion is specifically indicated for breech presentation between weeks 33-36 under professional guidance. The point can be quite painful to needle in healthy individuals—use thin needles and swift insertion. When using moxibustion, move the moxa stick back and forth rather than holding steady to prevent burns, as sensation at this area may be diminished.
