Commentary

Just as its name indicates, Anmian EX-HN is an important point for insomnia. Its location is close to Wangu GB-12, which is also indicated for sleeping disorders as well as other emotional issues such as anxiety or restlessness.

Classical Sources

As a modern extra point, Anmian does not appear in classical texts like the Huangdi Neijing or Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing. It was first documented in modern Chinese medical literature, appearing in the Changyong Xin Yiliao Fa Shouce (常用新医疗法手册 - Handbook of Common New Medical Methods). The point was developed empirically for its powerful sedative effects on insomnia and related conditions.

The name '安眠' (Ānmián) directly translates to 'Peaceful Sleep,' reflecting its primary therapeutic function of promoting restful sleep and calming the spirit (Shen).
