Rubella, commonly known as German measles or rubeola, is a contagious viral infection. Distinct from measles, rubella is generally milder and characterized by a fine red rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes. The most significant concern with rubella arises when pregnant women contract the virus, as it can lead to severe birth defects or miscarriage. This has led to widespread vaccination efforts to prevent the spread of the disease, especially among pregnant women.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approaches rubella differently from Western medicine. Instead of focusing solely on the viral aspect, TCM examines rubella through the lens of bodily imbalances and the flow of Qi, or life energy.
In TCM, rubella is seen as a manifestation of external pathogenic factors interacting with internal imbalances. The disease is understood as a disturbance caused by these factors, which disrupt the natural balance and flow of Qi and Blood within the body. Treatment in TCM aims to restore this balance and strengthen the body's resistance to pathogenic influences.
