Pemphigus is a group of rare autoimmune disorders characterized by the formation of blisters and erosions on the skin and mucous membranes. The most common type, pemphigus vulgaris, involves painful blisters and sores on the mouth, throat, nose, eyes, and genitals, which can then spread to the skin.
This condition occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the skin and mucous membranes, leading to blister formation. Pemphigus can be life-threatening, especially if not treated promptly and effectively.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approaches pemphigus differently from Western medicine. In TCM, pemphigus is viewed as a manifestation of internal disharmony and imbalance. It is believed to be caused by factors like Damp-Heat, Blood Stagnation, and Toxic-Heat within the body.
TCM doesn't see pemphigus as just an autoimmune disorder but as a symptom of underlying imbalances that affect the skin. Treatment in TCM, therefore, focuses on restoring harmony and balance to the body’s systems.
