Neutropenia is a hematological condition characterized by an abnormally low count of neutrophils, a type of white blood cell crucial for fighting off infections. This deficiency can leave the body more vulnerable to bacterial infections and reduce its ability to fight them once they occur. Neutropenia can be acute or chronic and may result from various factors, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, autoimmune disorders, and certain medications. Symptoms often include frequent infections, fever, and other signs of infection, though the condition itself is sometimes diagnosed during blood tests for unrelated health issues.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) does not directly correlate to the concept of neutropenia as understood in Western medicine but addresses the symptoms associated with what is perceived as a weakening of the body's Defensive Qi. TCM views this condition as a consequence of Qi and Blood Deficiency, which undermines the body's immune defenses.
The approach emphasizes restoring balance and strengthening the body's vital energies through identifying and correcting the underlying disharmony patterns, which are crucial for developing an effective treatment plan.
