DangYang EX-HN-2 is directly on the pupil line when the patient look straight ahead. It is also 1 cun within the anterior hairline.
Dangyang EX-HN-2 is not major Extra Point.
Its main function is to expel Wind-Heat and ease pain.
As an extra point, Dangyang (當陽) does not appear in the earliest classical texts like the Huangdi Neijing. It was documented in later compilations of extraordinary points. The name "Dangyang" literally means "facing the Yang" or "towards Yang," referring to its location on the forehead—an area that faces upward toward the sun and Yang energy.
Extra points like Dangyang were systematically collected during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with texts such as Zhen Jiu Da Cheng (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) documenting their locations and indications based on empirical clinical experience.
The patient should look straight, so as to identify the vertical pupil line. DangYang EX-HN-2 is on pupil line and 1 cun within the anterior hairline.
This point is located near the supraorbital nerve and supraorbital artery/vein. Use transverse (subcutaneous) insertion only—do not needle perpendicularly or deeply. Avoid vigorous manipulation. When needling, direct the needle horizontally along the scalp to prevent deeper penetration. Exercise caution in patients on anticoagulants due to the vascular structures in this region.
