Classical Sources

As an extra point, Dangyang (當陽) does not appear in the earliest classical texts like the Huangdi Neijing. It was documented in later compilations of extraordinary points. The name "Dangyang" literally means "facing the Yang" or "towards Yang," referring to its location on the forehead—an area that faces upward toward the sun and Yang energy.

Extra points like Dangyang were systematically collected during the Ming and Qing dynasties, with texts such as Zhen Jiu Da Cheng (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) documenting their locations and indications based on empirical clinical experience.

How to Locate

Caution

This point is located near the supraorbital nerve and supraorbital artery/vein. Use transverse (subcutaneous) insertion only—do not needle perpendicularly or deeply. Avoid vigorous manipulation.
